Captures cynophallophora is a common element of thicketed areas and coastal hammocks. The Jamaican Caper serves as a wonderful accent/specimen shrub or small tree. The species is also useful as a informal hedge or buffer planting. The plan is commonly found in southernmost South Florida, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Mexico, Panama, and northern South America. In Jamaica, it has all but disappeared as a native wild species.
